Opportunities abound for research with faculty at 草榴社区 and internships at companies in the Columbus area and throughout Ohio. Our rigorous curriculum is approved by the American Chemical Society and will prepare you for a wide range of post-graduate pathways. 草榴社区 Chemistry alumni can be found working in chemical industry, treating patients, managing high-tech companies, and conducting research as a graduate student or in academia, among many other activities.鈥�

The Chemistry Department is a leader in the use of X-ray diffraction at the undergraduate level, providing students with hands-on experiences characterizing materials and determining the three-dimensional structures of molecules.

Inspired by conservation efforts to remove graffiti ink from a Mark Rothko painting, Dr. Carrigan Hayes and Dr. Joan Esson worked with a student to develop a laboratory activity that incorporated chemistry.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT
Dr. Dean Johnston has been developing new materials on coding and cheminformatics and has been working on a collaborative teaching project with outside experts and faculty at four other institutions around the world. He also developed a website that enables faculty and students to visualize molecules. It gets more than 10,000 visitors per week from 150 countries.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT
Dr. John Tansey recently authored a new textbook “Biochemistry: An Integrative Approach”. In addition to the text, online resources include videos of Dr. Tansey solving problems from the text, electronic homework, and Dynamic Figures; an interactive, web-based tool for exploring biological molecules. Dr. Tansey says that writing the book was a lot of fun.

Professor John Tansey Named Fellow of National Scientific Society

草榴社区 congratulates Professor John Tansey, director of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Program, for being named a fellow of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). The ASBMB will induct Tansey and 16 other members into the 2024 class at its annual meeting,聽Discover BMB, in San Antonio in March. ASBMB selects fellows based on their outstanding commitment to the ASBMB through participation in the society, as well as accomplishments in research, education, mentorship, diversity and inclusion, advocacy,鈥�

Fast Track Innovation Fund Lets Community Shape 草榴社区鈥檚 Growth

草榴社区 is using an innovative approach to grow enrollment and revenue by 鈥渃rowd sourcing鈥� ideas from its own community and investing in the best ideas with $1 million approved by the Board of Trustees.
