» Thrashers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

For one night at least, the Thrashers seemed to figure it all out.

They played what easily ranks as their best game of the season. Facing one of the NHL's most consistent defensive teams, the Thrashers actually beat the Devils at their own game from the opening face-off.

By keeping constant pressure on New Jersey players as soon as they touched the puck, the Thrashers forced one turnover after another. And for a change, they were actually able to capitalize on the turnovers and get a few pucks past Scott Clemmensen. It's amazing what happens when every player competes on every shift, instead of just a handful.

While the victory brought smiles and laughter to each and every Thrasher and even allowed coach John Anderson to enjoy his postgame press conference for a...

New Jersey Devils' Mike Rupp, top, fights with Atlanta Thrashers' Eric Boulton (36) during the second period of an NHL hockey game Thursday night, Jan. 8, 2009, in Newark, N.J.

John Anderson and the Atlanta Thrashers hope a road shutout victory propels the struggling team to better things. Ilya Kovalchuk had a goal and an assist, and Kari Lehtonen made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season in the Thrashers' 4-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night. "To come in here against a team like New Jersey, that plays so consistently good and are so big and...

» Sykora's 2 goals lead Pens past Thrashers 3-1 (AP)

Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, left, makes a first-period save on a shot by Atlanta Thrashers' Jim Slater (23) in an NHL hockey game in Pittsburgh Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009. The Penguins won 3-1.

Evgeni Malkin set up all the goals, Petr Sykora and Sidney Crosby scored them. Marc-Andre Fleury made a series of important saves in the third period. Ruslan Fedotenko didn't score, but unexpectedly set the tone with a one-punch fight. For one night, the Pittsburgh Penguins looked like the talented team that went to the Stanley Cup finals last season.
