» Blues Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Blues assistant coach Rick Wamsley must have felt relieved that his team put up as many goals as it did in a 5-2 win Columbus on Saturday.
After all, Wamsley was responsible for Columbus selecting goaltender Steve Mason in the 2006 NHL draft, when Wamsley was the goaltending coach with the Blue Jackets.
Mason has torn up the league recently, posting three consecutive shutouts before his streak was snapped at 199 minutes, 19 seconds Friday night in Colorado.
"I didn't think he was going to be this good this early," Wamsley said. "I thought he had a chance to be a good goalie in his league because of his size and his skill, but so far he's ahead of schedule.
"Scouting is like being a major league hitter.

» Blues' Paul Kariya has hip surgery (AP)
Blues left wing Paul Kariya had left hip surgery on Monday and could miss the rest of the regular season. "We haven't ruled him out, but what's the sense of rushing something as serious as this?" team president John Davidson said Tuesday. "I think he'll be back to 110 percent, whether it's late this season or next season.

» Special teams help Blues beat Blue Jackets (AP)
After four extremely stingy games, Steve Mason looked like a rookie. The Blues' special teams cooled off the Blue Jackets' rookie goalie, accounting for all of St. Louis' goals in a 5-2 victory over Columbus on Saturday night. "I just wasn't very good," Mason said. "I was giving up rebounds, a couple of five-hole goals, so it wasn't a very good game by myself." Keith Tkachuk scored the go-ahead goal...

» Staal leads 'Canes past Blues 2-1 (AP)
The Carolina Hurricanes see the St. Louis Blues so infrequently that it's tough for coach Paul Maurice to draw up an effective game plan against them. Somehow Cam Ward seems to have them figured out. Ward flirted with his second shutout of St. Louis this season, stopping 30 shots in Carolina's 2-1 victory Friday night that prolonged the Blues' road struggles.
