» Ovechkin only Capitals All-Star selection (AP)
After Alex Ovechkin became the Washington Capitals' only player headed to the NHL All-Star game, teammates Mike Green and Nicklas Backstrom said all the right things Thursday about not being chosen. Their coach and some other members of the No. 2 team in the Eastern Conference were a tad less diplomatic.

» Reigning MVP Ovechkin tops East All-Star roster (AP)
Alex Ovechkin finally got his All-Star invitation. Less than a week after Washington Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau called Ovechkin's omission from the Eastern Conference's starting lineup "dumb," the reigning NHL MVP was among 15 players picked Thursday to fill out the roster for the All-Star game on Jan.

» Capitals Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
After a game earlier this season, Caps coach Bruce Boudreau talked about how the good goalies come up big in money situations. The Caps had been waiting for free agent signee goaltender Jose Theodore to do that this season.
Theodore had been playing much better of late, but he came through in a big way in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the rival Flyers. He made crucial saves throughout the game but stopped all three shootout chances to lock up the win.
That's the kind of game that could change a season for Theodore, who got a standing ovation after the game from the sellout crowd at Verizon Center.
He's playing aggressive, challenging hockey in goal now, not sitting back and waiting for the game to come to him, but coming out and taking away angles from shooters.

» Caps beat Flyers in shootout for 7th straight win (AP)
The surging Washington Capitals and their fans finally stood up to the Philadelphia Flyers. The Capitals edged the Flyers 2-1 in a shootout on Tuesday night for their seventh straight win. The victory helped avenge the only loss they've had in a month and ease some of the sting from last year's first-round playoff series loss to Philly.

» Capitals win 7th straight, top Flyers in shootout (AP)
Whether by blowout or shootout, the Washington Capitals needed a win over the "we don't like them" Philadelphia Flyers to give their winning streak a serious sense of accomplishment. It happened by shootout, their seventh straight win and one supported by a home-ice crowd that -- for a change -- didn't leave much room for the rival fans.
